One of the boys from our group has returned home to his mother. His name is Moise.
Not so long ago, we told Moise's story. Moise is the one in the boy group who has lived the shortest time on the streets. He has been doing that for 2 months.A few days ago, Moise's mother came to pick him up. She walked the streets looking for her son. When Moise saw his mother, he first hid while watching mother's movements and body language. He initially did not want to go with her, but the mother insisted.
Moise gave his mother an ultimatum: "If I'm going to go with you, you must first meet the people who are taking care of me now."He took the mother home to one of our VIGALEX members. He told our members that he was not comfortable going with his mother. Because mother's husband will never accept him.
To our members, Moise's mother confirmed that everything Moise has told is true. But she wants to bring him home again. She wants to be with her son.
Our members took the time to listen to the mother's challenges. Subsequently, the mother was guided and reminded of her responsibility and role as a mother. The challenges for her include fear of living on the streets with 2 children. So Moise and his younger siblings. The family lives in great poverty.

In Congos Børn/VIGALEX, we not only support and help street children, but have now also opened the door for parents who, for various reasons, have children living on the street, can seek help. Through Moise's story, we have become wiser.
We would like to build a bridge between the parents and their children, if that is possible. We can listen, support and guide, and maybe in that way we can help other children return to their families.
Moise's mother now has someone she can talk to, someone she can go to if things get challenging again. And she knows where to look for her son should a similar situation arise.
And Moise, who is back with his mother, now has a lifeline in our local association. We see it as a great vote of confidence in the local association that Moise demanded that mother meet us.One of the members asked the mother if it was not better to live on the street with both children, so that she could at least give them care and love, instead of sending one of the children out on the street alone.
What are you thinking reading this? Would you have asked another question? It is a question for reflection.
The stepfather wanted nothing to do with Moise. The mother did not send her son to the street, but she left the son with Moise's grandmother. With a person she thought would be able to take care of her son when she couldn't herself. But the grandmother sent the grandson to the street. I wonder how it felt for Moise's mother when she found out that he no longer lived with his grandmother, but on the street? Wonder when she found out?Right now she has proven that she wants her son. She went to the street to look for him.
As for Moise. Think of being let down several times by the people who should love you the most. Moise is now back home with his mother, who wants to repair the relationship with her son.
I am fascinated by Moise. He speaks Lingala and French. He is a clever and sensible boy. He communicates very well in French. It is a sign of a good school course, which means that the parents had invested in his schooling and future. What went wrong for these parents? There are so many questions!
Perhaps we can get answers to these questions now that we know the mother and have the opportunity to support them both. The door is of course open for Moise in Congo's Children, but if we can help the family to improve their well-being, this will be a priority.
Congo's Children takes care of street children in the city of Kinshasa. Now we have also opened a door to parents who, for one reason or another, have children living on the street. They can have someone to talk to about their challenges.Sometimes you just need someone to listen and suggest other alternatives than sending the children to the street. Parents need tools to deal with the problems when everything is on fire.
It is, among other things, in situations like this that it becomes clear how Congo's Children and VIGALEX already carry out extremely meaningful voluntary work in Kinshasa in D.R.Cong
