The last days of the trip

25.04.2023

I can say that the goal of the trip to Kinshasa in D.R. Congo was reached:

  • The NGO documents are now legal. We have been approved by the Congolese authorities as aNGO.

  • We have met with street children and orphans in Kinshasa. Some of them shared their touchinglife stories with us, and we became a little smarter about how we can best support and guide them towards onebetter future.

  • We have visited 2 NGO organizations and they shared their experiences with us about workingwith street children and manage an orphanage. We talked about the meaningful work and the manychallenges you may encounter along the way. One thing we are all sure of is that "it helps.'' The associationCongo's Children/Maison VIGALEX may have found their first collaboration partner in Kinshasa.

On 22 April, the association Congos Børn and VIGALEX Home held their first internationalmeeting on Zoom. How great it is to be involved in such a project, where the Congolese team and thatDanish teams exchange ideas and share experiences in order to better support street children andorphans in Kinshasa. They say that where there's a will, there's a way. The Zoom meeting took place in 3 languages. French, Danish andEnglish. The meeting was a success and we agreed to hold an international meeting once a monthhere in the initial phase.

So many motivated and dedicated people! It is really inspiring to be part of the two teams, the association Congos Børn and MaisonVIGALEX.The last days in Kinshasa were about making contacts with other NGOs in Congo.Fortunately, it went well.

  • So far, we have visited a branch of SOS Children's Villages.

    • We have interviewed Madame Marie Mvindia, who previously worked with street children andorphans in Kinshasa. She is a pioneer and founder of the school Source de Vie. We havevisited one of her schools where the children are taught for free. The parents of these childrenare also taught 3 times a week, where they learn to read and write.

  • And we have interviewed 3 young people who have joined the association Maison VIGALEX. They sharedus their experiences and thoughts about street children in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The goal of the journey has been reached. Tomorrow, Saturday 29 April, I am going back to Denmark. Where the boardwill continue to work on our plan to start an orphanage in D.R. Congo.

So long ❤
