What doesn´t kill you, makes you stronger. Here is a perfect example of that expression.
Look carefully at the picture. ❤️
The picture here - the picture where the children are sitting outside.
They are smiling and they look like they are enjoying themselves. Behind the facade, they are drowning in pain. They are traumatized. These children have lived on the streets for many years. They are between 10 and 14 years old. Many of them cannot remember their homes. Some of them went back to find their homes, only to find that their families had moved.
In the pictures here, it is the first time they have been invited to someone's home privately. They were served food and drink. Right now and here they are just children. In this home they are not street children, but children.
Each and every one of them has a heartbreaking story. They are seen as worthless, unwanted, unlovable, some who can be easily replaced. None of the children here have lost both parents. Everyone in the picture either has a mother or a father, but they have been thrown out of the home for various reasons. For several of them, it was about the stepfather wanting nothing to do with them. Then the mother had to choose between getting a sponsor or keeping her children.
In the pictures here, the children are sitting eating and watching movies.
The association Congos Børn and the members of our local association in D.R. Congo,VIGALEX, takes care of them.Who will speak their case? Who will tell their story? We in the Children of the Congo want to do that. These children have no one in the world. Their family and their network have turned themthe back.
I wonder how a human can choose onepartner rather than a minor child? How can these parents sleep at night knowing that their sons are lying alone somewhere out on the street. But the reality of D.R. Congo is different from Denmark, so how can I allow myself to judge someone? Poverty can push people to the worst, to the most inhumane. But what I do know is that we at Children of the Congo would like to give these children a place they can call home. The people who were supposed to love them unconditionally, protect them and be there for them are the ones who have given them up.Any of us can relate to that kind of pain. But how do you lift such a child up again when the trust is broken? How can they trust us?We have a big job ahead of us. It is our mission in Congo's Children to help these children to safety, and to helpthem to be able to thrive. They spend 24 hours - Monday to Sunday on the street. They sleep in cardboard boxes. They are harassed and kicked day and night. No calm, no peace. They spend every single day begging or picking up food from the floor. Or waiting for someone to leave leftovers at a restaurant so they can have something to eat. They devote all their energies to one thing: survival.
They find small jobs like throwing out garbage for people so they can get a penny for onebottle of water.
Congo's Children would like to give these children hope. Help them to use their resources appropriately. They have resources, because otherwise they would not survive in the streets of Kinshasa.I see them as the strongest children. They have faced the worst opposition, but they still get up and smile.Imagine what they can achieve with the right support and help.I am really looking forward to following their journey.
We are a new association. Right now we are giving these boys a breather. Once a week they come to the home of one of the association's members, where they get food, a bath, clean clothes, watch a film and have a good time. We cannot offer more at this time. But we are working hard to find a home for them. We work hard to give them a valuable life. We have already bought a piece of land on which we will build a home and a school, and we have started raising money to buy another piece of land that we can cultivate and become self-sufficient.
Congo's Children's vision is to help children like these. Children who stand alone in the world.
